A Publication on Transformation and Progress — To mark the 125th anniversary of the Emschergenossenschaft, we designed a book that makes the history and development of this institution accessible to a broad audience.
The publication presents a richly illustrated overview of the key milestones since the mid-19th century. It explains the numerous challenges and technical solutions undertaken by the Emschergenossenschaft in a way that is easy to understand, while embedding them in the political, economic, and social context of their time. A comprehensive visual section takes readers on a journey along the Emscher River – from its source to its confluence with the Rhine. The combination of historical and contemporary images vividly illustrates the profound transformation of the river landscape. By structuring the content around the communities along the river, the book highlights local developments and the unique characteristics of each city and municipality.
Forewords by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and North Rhine-Westphalia’s Minister President Hendrik Wüst emphasize the significance of this anniversary and the remarkable achievements of the Emschergenossenschaft.
Melville was responsible for the concept, design and production of the book.
