NOVUM - World of Graphic Design has been a graphic design magazine that stared in 1924 and vanished in December 2020. Originally published twelve times a year under the name "Gebrauchsgraphik," the magazine focused on graphic and communication design. Under the umbrella of Stiebner Verlag, Novum increasingly devoted the topic of haptics. Almost every issue presented a different finishing process, cover material or fine paper. It was published in German and English. Its issues since 1924 are archived in the Neue Sammlung of the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich.
In 2013/14 Melville Brand Design redesigned its logo, re-organised content and sections, and brought a fresh design to the magazine with a new set of typefaces. Over the years, Melville has designed a number of covers and two of our best trainees became art directors at Novum.
We believe that there is a need for diversity in the media landscape and for magazines that are made with heart, soul and passion. In this respect, we support the ex-Novum team, which has now founded a new magazine called Grafikmagazin.
